Exploring Roots, Shaping the Future

Looking back, the origins of micro macrame trace to the decline of handmade lace and the industrialization of traditional techniques. One pivotal moment was Margarete Neumann’s Margaretenspitze — a technique that translated lace into elegant, structured knots, bridging tradition and modern micro macrame.

Some of the most striking and popular micro macramé patterns, like the Micro Macramé Rose, are directly inspired by these techniques, adapted into jewelry. The introduction of synthetic threads and beads, as seen in the work of Joan R. Babcock, marked the evolution toward contemporary micro macramé.

Today, the combination of new materials and influences from other crafts, such as tatting lace, opens a whole new chapter in this technique — and you can be part of shaping it.
